Private ADHD Titration

There is a current national shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and an increase in demand worldwide.

Our service can offer private ADHD treatment as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessments cost include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A comprehensive assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be conducted by a highly experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This includes a complete medical history and an evaluation using the common ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

Following your assessment you will be informed if medication is considered to be beneficial in your particular situation. The discussion will take place at your follow-up appointment (which could be in person, via video link or over the phone). Your clinician will discuss the various medication options available. If you decide to start medication, we can help you the option of titrating your dose to maximize the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This process may take several weeks, and involves adjusting your child's medication slowly until the right balance is achieved. It's not uncommon to need to adjust three or four medications before determining the most effective one for your child's ADHD symptoms. It is essential that parents are involved in the titration and keep an eye out for their child's behavior, so they can let the doctors know if the medication is helping or causing adverse effects.

If you do not decide to return to NHS care, your medication will be issued with a prescription from a private pharmacy that you'll need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in your consultation fees). You'll be required to attend regular appointments every six months to monitor your medication - this includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the evaluation is completed, you can schedule follow-up appointments with your psychiatrist. The appointment usually takes place on zoom video call but in certain circumstances it is possible to do an audio-only consultation (again at an additional cost).

At this point, we will discuss any treatment options we have and decide on a custom-made ADHD medication titration plan. This will include a discussion and review of your medication dose, as well as any side effects you might be experiencing. The cost for these titration sessions is PS150 for face to face sessions and PS60 for online or phone video consultations. The pharmacy will charge you for any medication costs.

We also advise that you check whether your GP accepts a 'Shared Care Agreement that means that once discharged from the clinic you will be returned to them for the prescription for medication.

Medication
