Ahead of the BRI Liga 1 2024/2025 season, PSIS Semarang has seen major changes, including several key player departures. Two crucial local defenders, Fredyan Wahyu and Wahyu Prasetyo, have transferred to Malut United. They follow Hari Nur Yulianto, who also joined Malut United last season. Additionally, PSIS Semarang lost Taisei Marukawa, a key foreign player, to Dewa United. PSIS mentioned foreign player regulations as a reason for Marukawa’s departure. Despite these losses, PSIS has brought in new talent, including Zalnando on loan from Persib Bandung. Young talents Aulia Rahman (17 years old) and Rahmat Syawal (18 years old) are also expected to make an impact. Persebaya Surabaya's squad for BRI Liga 1 2024/2025 includes notable players such as Ernando Ari, Francisco Rivera, and Bruno Moreira. After a challenging 2023/2024 season, Persebaya has strengthened their team. Francisco Rivera, the best player of BRI Liga 1 2023/2024, is expected to bring creativity to their attack. Additionally, Portuguese striker Flavio Silva, who scored 23 goals for Persik Kediri last season, joins the team as a key goal-scorer. Persebaya has also retained key players like Ernando Ari and Bruno Moreira, known for their consistent performances.

PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) has sent the provisional schedule for Liga 1 2024/2025 to each club. Persib Bandung will kick off the competition. As the defending champions, Persib will host Liga 2 champions PSBS Biak on August 9, 2024, at Stadion Si Jalak Harupat (SJH), Soreang, Bandung Regency. Persib will return to SJH for the second week of Liga 1, where they will face Dewa United on August 19, 2024. Dewa United will have to be the traveling team for Liga 1 next season due to the Indomilk Arena in Tangerang being under renovation by the government. On September 23, 2024, Persib will have a big match against Persija Jakarta in the sixth week, to be played at SJH. From the eighth week onwards, Persib will no longer play at SJH for Liga 1, as they will move to Stadion Gelora Bandung Lautan Api (GBLA), which is currently under renovation. In the early season transfer market, Persib has not been very aggressive. Maung Bandung has only signed Mateo Kocijan, while Tyronne del Pino, Robi Darwis, Eriyanto, and Satrio Azhar have returned from loan spells. Additionally, Persib has released three players: Fitrul Dwi Rustapa to Bali United, Arsan Makarin to PSPS Pekanbaru, and Alberto Rodriguez to Mohun Bagan SG in India.

Persebaya has a tradition of developing young talents, with players like Andik Vermansyah, Evan Dimas, Rachmat Irianto, Rizky Ridho, and Toni Firmansyah having achieved success. For the 2024/2025 season, Alfan Suaib is a name to watch. Having impressed during the 2024/2025 pre-season, Alfan Suaib, who was a trainee last season, shows promise as a winger and could be a valuable option if Malik Risaldi or Kasim Botan are not performing at their best.

In the 2024/2025 season, BRI Liga 1 clubs are permitted to sign up to eight foreign players, with no restrictions on their nationalities. Persebaya Surabaya has signed Darryl Lachman as their seventh foreign player for the season. Initially, Persebaya planned to use only six foreign players, but recent developments led them to recruit Darryl Lachman. Darryl Lachman, a 34-year-old central defender, previously played for Perth Glory, participating in 23 games during the 2023/2024 season. Lachman has experience with Dutch clubs such as FC Groningen, PEC Zwolle, FC Twente, Cambuur, and Willem II. PSBS Biak has also added a foreign player, signing Jaimerson Xavier, who played for Persis Solo last season. Persib will begin their campaign in BRI Liga 1 by facing Persib Bandung. Persib Bandung hold the title of defending champions in BRI Liga 1 2024/2025. Maung Bandung will attempt to retain their title, which is evident from their activity in the transfer market. Persib has brought in two local players with Indonesian national team labels, Dimas Drajad and Adam Alis. Both are expected to have a significant impact on the depth of Persib's squad. Not only local players, but Persib has also made changes to their foreign player lineup. Stefano Beltrame and Alberto Rodriguez have transferred, and in their place, Persib has recruited Gustavo Franca, Mailson Lima, and Mateo Kocijan. Persebaya Surabaya will host PSS Sleman in the first week of BRI Liga 1 2024/2025 at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium on Sunday, August 11, 2024. The match between Persebaya and PSS will start at 19:00 WIB, live on Indosiar and Vidio. Persebaya won 2-0 against Persik Kediri in their last friendly match. Although the Bajul Ijo won, their performance was not yet optimal. The combination of Francisco Rivera, Bruno Moreira, and Flavio Silva remains somewhat uncoordinated. In contrast, PSS Sleman was defeated 1-2 by Persita Tangerang in their last friendly match. PSS's performance is not yet optimal, but there is hope in midfielder Moon Chang-jin, who is the creative force behind Super Elang Jawa's attacks. PSS Sleman's head-to-head record against Persebaya is not promising. In their last six encounters, PSS has never beaten Bajul Ijo.
